Zodiak Entertainment today announces that it will increase its 35% share in Mumbai-based Sol Production to 51%. Zodiak Entertainment is a leading creator, producer and distributor of multi-genre content for TV, cinema, internet and mobile. Part of the De Agostini Group, Zodiak Entertainment is comprised of more than 30 highly successful production companies including Diverse, Mastiff, Marathon, Jarowskij, Magnolia, Sol, RM 5to Elemento and Yellow Bird.

Launched by former UTV Executive Producers Kamna Nirula Menezes and Fazila Allana in January 2003, Sol Production became part of the Ramalan Zodiak Entertainment Group in 2008. “The partnership has met the targets set out in the original agreement,” says a statement, “which would result in a stake increase.” Sol’s programming includes some of the highest rated shows to air in India. The finales of the celebrity match-making reality show Swayamvar have drawn audiences of 38m and 25.4m viewers for series one and two respectively. Sol also produces the long-running teen drama Kya Mast Hai Life for Disney Channel in India.

New CEO Keshav Kaul joins Sol Production from Indian broadcaster Star TV where he held the position of Associate VP/Strategic Planning. Keshav will run Sol’s commercial business, spearheading its plans for expansion into new regions, and genres.

Patrick Svensk, SVP Mergers and Acquisitions/Business Development at Zodiak Entertainment said “We are very excited to announce our fortified relationship with Sol Production. They are absolute champions in their field and but still have great potential for more growth. We look forward to further reaping the rewards of our partnership over the long term.”

Fazila Allana, MD/Sol production said “We are very pleased that Zodiak Entertainment is further increasing its stake in Sol. We have received tremendous support from the group and benefited from the resources available to us which have improved our knowledge of the international marketplace. With an even stronger team in place now that Keshav has joined, we are feeling very positive about Sol’s future growth.”

“The stake increase will not impact the day to day running of Sol Production. Sol will retain its independent status and the Sol brand,” said a statement.
